April 7th LMRTFY

Welcome to the April 7th edition of Let Me Read That For You!

(I needed a thumbnail and am going to tell you to pick up the mini-donkey)

Quick disclaimer; I actually had to work yesterday so I didn’t get to as many articles.

My initial plan is for my recap to include waiver wire suggestions bi-weekly Monday and Friday on top of the other news and notes.

My plan is to do a Buy/Sell on Sundays.

May even work in my own personal rankings and post updates on Tuesday/Wednesday.

If you haven’t read it yet my breakdown for strategy for the first month is right here.

Waiver Wire Pickups

Alright onto the waiver wire pickups for this weekend. As a reference point, for those new to fantasy baseball, If your league had a 25 man draft I really wouldn’t advise dropping any of the top 22 guys you took yet. There are obviously exceptions such as a guy you had rated higher gets dropped by another team. Right now I’m talking about minor improvements for those last few bench spots, likely only for a few days to a week until you switch them out for another hot bat or streamer. RIDE HOT STREAKS

Sandy Leon: Only owned in 26% of Yahoo leagues, started out 5/8 with 1 HR. Those numbers aren’t eye popping but it’s better than every catcher not named Realmuto or Grandal and Leon hits in the Boston offense.

First Base

Mark Reynolds: The Mini Donkey! Only owned in 25% of Yahoo leagues, 7/15 with 2 HRs and that was on the road! Heading back to Colorado for the next 6 games and 3 vs Padres pitching.

Ryan Zimmerman: Only owned in 9% of Yahoo leagues. 5/12 start with 2 HRs. Hitting 5th in that dangerous Washington lineup. Should rack up the counting stats if he stays healthy.

Second Base

Meh: No one stands out

Third Base

Chase Headley: 17% owned. 7/11 with 1 HR and 1SB. Pick him up and start him till he goes O’fer a couple times then find someone else.

Travis Shaw: 48% owned. Not as hot but may be a contributor on your team for a lot longer.

Chris Owings: 24% owned. Has SS and OF eligibility and 2 SB’s in 4 games. Arizona loves to run so could be a cheap source of steals for you in the middle infield.

Stephen Souza Jr: Owned in only 3% of leagues 6/14 start with 0 counting stats and it’s completely unlike him. In deeper leagues a great source of cheap power and speed. Seems to be hitting the ball well so I would expect a big next week or so from him.

Max Kepler: 33% Owned. Has the talent to make a huge impact for your team. A hit in every game so far is a good start.

Streamers for today (in order)

DON’T STREAM RYU! Like I really need to tell you but the total in that game stood out at 12.

Zach Wheeler: 29% owned. Good matchup vs Miami today at home. Was a huge prospect so a good start would make him worth keeping around.

Mike Leake: 13% Owned. At home vs a putrid Cincy lineup.

Brett Anderson:  3% Owned. If you’re desperate for a W. Anderson had some good starts last year and shouldn’t blast your ratios.

News and Notes

Xander Boagarts is out until Monday on the bereavement list.

Arizona is going to install humidors. Could mean less offense but let’s wait and see on that.

Syndergaard will be good for his next start.

Han-Ram and Mookie are out today with the flu. Red Sox need to pony up and get the clubhouse a second toothbrush.

Garrett Richards having a “precautionary MRI”. It was just a bicep cramp right?

Neftali Feliz lost a game to an Arenado HR. I wouldn’t worry about this situation yet. Still a mid-low level closer and the arms behind him don’t pose much threat.

Puig had a big 2HR night. I bought him late in the draft as a high upside lottery ticket and it could pay off. His name recognition presents great sell high opportunities.

George Springer is starting the season on fire. I drafted him and am seriously considering trading him away right now. He’s batting 1st so some of that power will be wasted and since last year is 9/21 on SB attempts and could soon lose the red light with so much firepower behind him. Don’t get less than what you paid in the draft but I think it’s the perfect opportunity to bail on him.

Ken Giles with the loss and 2 ER. Why they felt the need to bring him in for his 3rd inning in 4 days in the first series of the year is beyond me.

Matt Harvey may have been a great late steal SP if you gambled on him. I’m gonna look to trade for him now while he’s still cheap.

Reds appear to be closer by committee. If you own one of them I’m sorry since they likely won’t see enough saves in a month for a pattern to appear.

Heath Cummings breaks down the Brewers lineup

My Take: Braun is underrated with some nice pieces around him this year and a cozy dome during April. Villar, Shaw and Keon Broxton could all surprise if that team makes a collective next step and none are too expensive to own. Hernan Perez is a cheap source of steals for those in need and Thames should give some power when he starts.

If you’re looking for the wordier version of a must add list Avery Seltzer has provided one.

My Take: Having Lynn and Gravemann as “Must Adds” while predicting they have a 1.3 WHIP doesn’t make much sense. I would look to add them if you were desperate but far from required. I’ve mentioned Corey Dickerson and Travis Shaw a lot and would add both. Mitch Haniger is a nice sleeper but I’m not adding until he starts hitting.

Alright we’ve already got a game on and the next one starts in an hour. I’ll be around replying to comments if you have any questions or feedback.
